Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

  • four cups (8 slices) cubed white bread
  • half cup raisins
  • two cups milk
  • a quarter cup butter
  • half cup sugar
  • two eggs, slightly beaten
  • one tablespoon vanilla
  • half teaspoon ground nutmeg

Sauce Ingredients:

  • half cup butter
  • half cup sugar
  • half cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • half cup heavy whipping cream
  • one tablespoon vanilla


How To Make

Heat oven to three hundred fifty °F. Combine bread and raisins in large bowl. Combine milk and a quarter cup butter in one -quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat until butter is melted (four to seven minutes).
Pour milk mixture over bread; let stand ten minutes.
Stir in all remaining pudding ingredients. Pour into greased 1 1/2-quart casserole. Bake for forty to fifty minutes or until set in center.
Directions for Sauce:
Combine all sauce ingredients except vanilla in one-quart saucepan.Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture thickens and comes to a full boil (five to eight minutes).
Stir in vanilla
To serve, spoon warm pudding into individual dessert dishes; serve with sauce.Store refrigerated..
