Homemade White Bread Recipe
This classic homemade white bread recipe is everything you can ask for in bread. The loaf is so soft and fluffy and so EASY to make with simple ingredients you already have on hand.
Servings: 8 servings (1 loaf)
- 3 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, measured then sifted
- 1 1/3 cup warm water *
- 2½ tsp granulated sugar
- 1 Tbsp oil (canola or olive oil)
- 1½ tsp salt
- 2½ tsp active dry yeast
In a bowl, add sifted flour and make a large well in the center of the flour.
Pour the warm water, oil, and salt. Sprinkle yeast over water and sugar over yeast, gently stir and allow the yeast to activate, about 5 minutes.
Mix the dough until fully combined, then knead for about 5 minutes. Add the dough back to the bowl, cover and let rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until the dough has doubled in size.
Line a 9×5 bread pan with parchment paper and spray, or just generously spray pan. Shape the dough and to the bread pan. Cover with a towel and allow to rise an addional 30-45 minutes.
Bake in preheated oven to 375°F for 25 minutes or until bread loaf is golden and cripsy.
Remove bread loaf from the pan and allow to cool on a cooling rack. Brush crust of loaf with butter, optional.
- Be sure the water is warm, between 110°F–115°F, so the yeast activates.
- Good quality flour is needed. Or use a combination of all-purpose flour with bread flour.
